How we use your information
What Research Agenda collects, why, who helps us handle it, and how to change your mind. Plain English, and only what we actually do.
Who we are. Research Agenda is published by Thesis House Ltd, 31-35 Kirby Street, London EC1N 8TE, which is the controller of the personal information described here. Questions about this page or your information go to hello [at] researchagenda [dot] news.
What we collect, and why
Registering for the briefings. Your name, email address, job title and organisation. We use them to send you the briefings you asked for, to keep your free access to the site, and to understand who reads us. The basis is your consent, which you can withdraw at any time with the unsubscribe link in every email.
Readout. If you sign up for Readout, our early-morning email, we note that preference and when and where you signed up. Every Readout carries a link that stops Readout and keeps the briefings, and another that unsubscribes you from everything.
Opens and clicks. Our emails record whether they were opened and which links were clicked, so we can tell what’s useful. You agree to this when you register; you can ask us to stop at any time.
Subscriptions and enquiries. If you or your organisation ask about a subscription, we keep your name, role, contact details and the correspondence so we can quote, agree terms, invoice and support the subscription. The basis is taking steps towards, and then performing, a contract.
Feedback and the reader survey. What you choose to tell us, and an email address only if you give one. We use it to improve Research Agenda. We don’t publish what you say with your name attached without asking you first.
Events you submit to the calendar. The event details, and your name and email so an editor can check the listing and send you a confirmation with a link to cancel it. Your contact details are never shown on the calendar.
Tips and correspondence. If you email us, including Haldane, we keep the message to deal with it. We protect sources: we will not reveal who sent us a tip without their agreement.
Cookies and similar technology
We use Google Analytics to see which pages get read – never for advertising, and we don’t sell any of it. Analytics cookies are only set if you say yes in the banner. If you say no, or your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, Google receives only cookieless, aggregate signals. We also store a few small settings in your browser: your cookie choice, light or dark mode, and whether you’ve finished or dismissed the reader survey. The newsroom sign-in sets one cookie, for our editors only.
Who helps us
We use a small number of service providers, each handling information only on our instructions: Campaign Monitor (sending the briefings and Readout), Google (analytics and our email), Vercel (hosting the site), Sanity (our content system, which also holds feedback, survey answers and submitted events), Groove (our shared inbox), Asana (keeping track of subscription enquiries) and Slack (internal notifications). Some of them process information outside the UK; where they do, we rely on the safeguards UK data protection law requires. We never sell your information or share it for others’ marketing.
How long we keep it
Your registration stays while you’re subscribed to our emails. When you unsubscribe we keep only what we need to make sure we don’t email you again. Subscription records are kept for as long as accounting rules require. Feedback and survey answers are kept while they’re useful for improving the service, and submitted events are removed once they’re past or cancelled.
Your rights
You can ask to see the information we hold about you, to correct it, to delete it, or to object to how we use it, and you can withdraw consent at any time. Email hello [at] researchagenda [dot] news and we’ll respond within a month. If you’re unhappy with how we’ve handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.
